I realised “according today’s standards I should be dead!” Let me explain:
When I was a child I:
I rode a horse, bicycle, and calves without a helmet. I was pitched off, bucked off, fell over on my bicycle, and could control a horse’s head by the time I was six years old.
I ate churned butter made out of raw cream!
I drank “raw” cow’s milk. Straight from the cow to the tank, to the jug. At times we did not even wait for the jug, we would put our mouths under the spigot and drink it right out of the tank. Sometimes we drank it straight from the cow. It is amazing what a good squirt of cow’s milk will do to revive the soul. It’s warm.
I ate fresh meat, beef, chicken and pork. I ate fresh fish right out of the tank. (Pond to some) We even fried it in grease! It had no injected dyes, to make it look “red.” You see we actually knew what they ate. I hate to tell you people you do not want to know what a chicken eats, much less a hog!
I did not even know what a “swimming pool” was until I was about 10 years old. No life guard on duty. I swam in a “tank.” With moss, fish, and snakes. Mud also got between my toes.
I ate dirt! I used to make “mud pies” and place them under the car for my oven. I ate decade matter with “germs!” I had “imagination!”
My playmates were 28 hound dogs, as my Dad was a fox hunter. I dressed them in doll clothes, fleas and all! They actually ate scraps, and lived to be 10,000 years old!
I climbed trees and you know what? “I broke a sweat!” I learned how to sweat real early in life.
I have worked since………….. I cannot remember not working.
I respected my parents and teachers. “Sir” and “Mam” were not an option. Still isn’t and I am 58 years old.
I even got “spankings.” Not a lot, but I got them.
I was brought up to think for myself. To be a “free-thinker” and guide my own life, not depend on anyone else or the government to do it for me.
I shoveled cow poop, stepped in cow poop, and even fell in cow poop. Washed right off with a hose, without bacteria destroying soap.
The Golden Rule: “If you treat people right, they may not like you but they will respect you.”
My, my how am I still alive?? I ate all the “wrong” things. I lived by the rules of my parents. I had respect for my elders. I treated people right. Never did drugs and obeyed my curfew. Actually rode animals, roped them, put a bit in their mouths, put a saddle on them, walked around them and under them. I rode a bike on a dirt road. I made good grades, because it was expected of me. I think for myself! I should be dead! Here I am, “still alive.” Will wonders never cease???
Have a great weekend!
God Bless, SR

We are so glad you are!
great post
Hey Heather,
I am too! It’s amazing isn’t it, according to all the “experts” who know what is best for me???? Glad you liked, thanks for comment and God Bless, SR
Love this SR!!! I was raised the same way and I’m still alive too. I don’t usually broadcast this but I raise my kids this way too.
Hey Number 9,
Why not “broadcast it?” I am sure you will have if you do not already do, “good” kids. I raised my kids the same way, wonderful adults! Wonderful parents! There was no “calling the law” on my parents, as my “parents were the law” in our house:>) I think too many “parents” just want to be friends, and they need to be a “parent.” I am glad you are still “alive” also! Thanks for comment and God Bless, SR
It sounds like an ideal childhood – not a computer thingy mentioned once.
We’ve got hens; stinky, noisy, and inquisitive. kids love ‘em…( I love the eggs…)
glad you made it to 58!
Hey Geloruma,
Hope your weekend is going well. Just got in from Adoration. It was an “ideal childhood.” We worked, we played, we respected. I love “yard eggs!” I have a neighbor who sells them and they taste sooooooooo good. I cannot eat store eggs. I am glad I made it to “58″ also. It is wonder though, isn’t it:>) Thanks for comment and God Bless, SR
Yup, yup and yup!
Hey 8 kids,
Enjoyed your post today! You said it well, “Yup!” Thanks for comment and God Bless, SR
Love it! Love it! Love it! So good to have you back and so refreshing to be able to connect occasionally. I will sure be glad when we have access to Internet service on a continual basis again. I’d say you ate all the right things, and were raised properly! I had a similar background minus the cows and horses. However, in the past 39 years I have lived the country life. I still eat ‘right’ and believe many are returning to that lifestyle. At least in our age group. Let’s just say 55 and up. Lol You have a great weekend also. Love ya.
Hey Gracie,
How did we ever survive, Girl? I try and eat right most of the time myself which means, “no chemicals in my food!” If people would only realise God gave to us all we need. He did not put chemicals and dyes in His food! I love the country life Gracie. Lord only knows what would happen to me, if I had to live on concrete??? I think I had just as soon die:>) Have a great weekend, thanks for comment, and God Bless, SR (Will be glad when you are up and running again also:>)
How many trees did I fall out of when I was a kid? Can’t count ‘em. But my bones are still in tact.
Raw cows milk. Didn’t grow up drinking it and the first time I had a glass of it I was 25 years old — got sick as a dog. —– All your’s SR!
Hey Biltrix,
I will take it gladly:>) At least now you know how a “dog” feels when one is sick:>) See there is always a good way to look at things! Climbing trees is a great place for a child’s imagination to grow, is it not? Have a great weekend, thanks for comment, and God Bless, SR
My mother was raised on a dairy farm, so I spent a fair amount of time out there as a kid. Nothing went to waste on the farm. Your post brought back a lot of great memories. Yeah, I tried some right out of the cow. Thanks.
Welcome Spirit Island and thanks for comment. I enjoyed your post very much today. You are correct, “nothing goes to waste.” If we followed that rule today, people would have “money:>)” I am glad it brought good memories for you. It always does for me. Again welcome and thanks for comment. God Bless, SR
You’re still alive because you ate germs! And now they tell us we have to sing happy birthday twice while washing our hands to get all the germs off — we’d never get out of the bathroom with those kind of rules! I for one am glad your still kicking! Great post, SR!
God Bless you!
Hey Deidre,
What people do not realise is when they kill “all” bacteria off of their bodies, they also kill the “good bacteria.” I am glad you are still ‘kicking’ too. Thanks for comment and God Bless, SR
